PostHeaderIcon Good Things to Know About FFL Licensing

To become licensed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Explosives (BATFE) you must meet certain requirements and complete an application. BATFE regulates businesses that engage in the sale and service of firearms. Not only does it process your application and either approve or deny it, it also regulates periodic checks of the records you keep once you are in business. You will not have a lot of difficulty meeting the federal regulations but you must make sure that everything is in order before you actually complete and submit your application to BATFE. FFL licensing has a number of requirements and guidelines that you need to follow.

Your Federal Firearms License will be approved by BATFE if the following conditions are met:

•   You are at least 21 years old.
•   You are not prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition.
•   You have not willingly violated the Gun Control Act.
•   You have not willfully submitted false information on your application.
•   You have put in place premises for conducting business or collecting for curios and relics and you certify that:

1.   The business you conduct at the licensed premise where it is located is not prohibited from State or local law
2.   Within 30 days after your application is approved, your business will comply with the requirements of State and local law.
3. You have sent or delivered a form to the chief law enforcement officer where the premises are located notifying the officer that you intend to apply for a license.
4.  You verify that secure gun storage or safety devices will be available at any place in which firearms are sold under the license to persons who are not licensees.

FFL licensing is not difficult if you make sure to pay close attention to all of the federal and state requirements. Then make sure that you have prepared everything in the best, most truthful way possible. Your goal is to submit your application so that it is right the first time. That way you will not have any reason to be denied your firearms license.
