PostHeaderIcon So You Want to Get a Gun Dealer License

You may be like millions of other people and want to become involved in the firearms industry. Owning your own firearms business requires that you obtain a gun dealer license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE). There are several things you will need to do before you become licensed and you must meet all of the requirements before sending in your application. Once you are licensed, you will be able to buy guns as a dealer and sell them to customers.

You will need to get a Federal Firearms License (FFL) application from the BATFE and fill it out. Once your application is completed, you will need to decide what type of license you want. The BATFE will inform you within 60 days if you have been approved for a firearms license. If you are approved, then the license is valid for three years at the place of business shown on the license. It will need to be renewed every three years to keep it valid.

In order to qualify for a FFL there are some strict requirements that you must meet. Some of them are:

• You must be at least 21 years old.
• You must not be prohibited from holding or trading guns or ammunition.
• Your federal records must be unblemished.
• You must provide all information required by the licensing administration.
• You are allowed to legally engage in business in the country or state in which you reside.
• Where you conduct business must follow all local and state laws.
• Your place of business must have all required storage and safety devices for your firearms in place.

You will be charged an application fee when you apply for your license. The amount varies, depending on where you are setting up business. And, there are different firearm licenses that require a different fee. The fees must be re-paid when you renew your license every three years. Getting a gun dealer license is something that you can do but it will take a little leg work on your part. And, you will be required to meet any and all federal regulations before a license will be issued to you.
