When you Don’t Need an FFL License Application
In order to be in the business of dealing in, manufacturing, or importing firearms or manufacturing or importing ammunition, you are required per the Gun Control Act to fill out an FFL license application in order to obtain a Federal Firearms License. You do not need to get an FFL License Application if you “make occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or you sell all or part of your personal collection of firearms” or you are “a person who makes occasional repairs or who occasionally fits special barrels, stocks, or trigger mechanisms to firearms”.
Requirements of the FFL License Application
In order to be in the business of dealing in, manufacturing, or importing firearms or manufacturing or importing ammunition, you are required per the Gun Control Act to fill out an FFL license application in order to obtain a Federal Firearms License. The licensing system is administered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) agency. If you want to be a firearms dealer with a firearms license, you must be defined as, “a person who is engaged in the business of selling firearms at wholesale or retail, repairing firearms, or making or fitting special barrels, stocks, or trigger mechanisms to firearms” or “a person who is a pawnbroker”.
